Neugebauer Responds to President’s Speech on Syria

Sep 11, 2013 Issues: National Security

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) released the following statement in response to President Obama’s speech on Syria tonight.

“I remain opposed to American military intervention in Syria.  I’ve considered this issue carefully, and attended classified briefings with senior military and intelligence officials.  While the violence in Syria is tragic, I’m not convinced that American intervention would provide any real solutions.  The President has yet to provide clear objectives for U.S. military engagement, and without a concrete, achievable mission, I cannot support putting our men and women in uniform in harm’s way.

“It’s critical that we remain cautious in our negotiations with Russia, and that we insist on verification of any agreements to neutralize Syria’s chemical weapons. But I am encouraged that we are pursuing a diplomatic approach, and I am hopeful that we can find a resolution.”
