Neugebauer Statement on IRS Political Targeting

May 10, 2013 Issues: Government Accountability, Taxes

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) released the following statement in response to the Obama Administrations’ admission that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) targeted conservative groups for extra scrutiny.

“I was extremely disappointed to hear that the IRS was abusing its power to score political points.  This is a fundamental violation of our first amendment rights, and it will not be tolerated.  Bullying and harassing groups because of their political affiliations is completely contrary to our nation’s founding principles.  I’m pleased that my colleagues on the Committee on Oversight have pledged to investigate this abuse of power by the Obama Administration.  An apology is not sufficient to address this issue—Americans deserve to be sure it will never happen again.”
