Neugebauer Votes to Defund Obamacare in the Continuing Resolution

Sep 20, 2013 Issues: Health Care, Government Accountability, Fiscal Responsibility

WASHINGTON, DC—Congressman Randy Neugebauer (R-TX) released the following statement after the House passed H.J.Res. 59, a Continuing Resolution (CR) to defund Obamacare and fund government operations.

“My constituents in West Texas have been very clear: they don’t want their hard-earned money funding a broken and harmful health care mandate,” Neugebauer said.  “The legislation we passed today is a direct result of my efforts as an original co-sponsor of a conservative bill to fully defund Obamacare while reducing government spending.  This is a win for us.  We moved the ball down the field by insisting that the CR include a no-gimmicks vote to defund Obamacare.”

Neugebauer also joined Texas Republicans in the House of Representatives in a letter to the Senate, urging that body to take action to defund Obamacare.

In part, the letter, which is available here, reads, “Now, it is up to the Republicans and like-minded Democrats in the Senate to continue the charge to defend the American people from this disaster to their health and finances. We urge you to use all of the legislative tools at your disposal, including the filibuster, to protect America from this train wreck.”
